Akwesasne Thunder Advance to The Founders Cup
In a thrilling conclusion to the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL) Final, the Akwesasne Thunder emerged victorious over the Six Nations Rebels with a decisive 6-2 win in Game 4, held at the Anowara'ko:wa Arena on Monday, August 7th. The win secured the Akwesasne Thunder their spot in The Founders Cup, the National Junior B Lacrosse Championship of Canada.
The Thunder took control early in the game, with back to back goals from Mason Cree setting the tone. Holding the Rebels’ scoreless after one period, the Thunder continued to dominate the game in the second, adding two more goals from Takaronhiotakie Thompson and Ryan Oakes Jr.
Despite the Rebels’ efforts to turn the tide, Akwesasne's defence remained impenetrable, effectively countering every move. Damonie Thomas managed to breach the Thunder’s defence with a goal for Six Nations late in the second period, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback as Trysen Sunday and Andyn Bero sealed the fate of the match in favour of the Thunder, contributing to their 6-goal tally.
As the final horn sounded, the Akwesasne Thunder celebrated a well-deserved victory, with their eyes now set on The Founders Cup. Congratulations to the Akwesasne Thunder on their outstanding achievement and best of luck as they represent Ontario on the national stage.
